Chant Post & Beam

From Gothic to Country Georgian in one move to a property near Madoc Ontario.

This house was being divested of its gothic brick facade when Mel happened by, discovering the true history beneath...a classic clapboard-covered post and beam frame with its interior intact. So Tradition Home moved it piecemeal from Bolton Ontario to resurrect it on the Chants lot near Queensville.

An exterior view of the Chant home. The house certainly deserved a classic bell-cast porch. Notice the original dentil worked frieze that lends a touch of elegance.

Some library and lots of storage were required in the living room so our cabinetmaker set to work.

Fortunately, there was a one inch space between the late brick facade and the original clapboard, allowing for a reasonably clean salvage operation. Notice the line of the original bell-cast porch. I think the house was happy to revert back to its early self.
