The Grobb House circa 1810

This incredible structure, built by the family Grobb who immigrated to Canada from Pennsylvania in the year 1800, is believed to be among the oldest homes in Ontario, having been erected in the first few years of the nineteenth century near Beamsville. After having been disassembled, with each piece carefully cataloged and numbered, it is now offered for reconstruction on your site. Our expert period home artisans are available now, allowing this wonderful vintage home to live again.

With every piece carefully numbered and catalogued the magnificent frame can live again. Built in the age-old tradition of hand-hewn oak as exemplified in earlier centuries in Europe, it falls into a category that is exceptional in Ontario.

This shot of the gable end shows the care and precision of master craftsmen. Notice the two great pine joice systems that span 28 feet to carry the floors.

Every peg had to be carefully removed to insure that the tenons were not damaged when the frame was dissasembled. Notice the symmetrical bracing system.

The wide plank flooring was carefully taken up to be reused in place upon reassmbly.

One of the homes great features... the exceptionally wide pine wall boards with beaded edge. Many layers of wallpaper were carefully removed to expose the original red paint.

They don't build them like this anymore. They were meant to last and this one, now a couple centuries old may go a few more if we have anything to do with it.

Here you can see the tight fitting of the hand-hewn rafters into the plate and the attic joist carried on the braced girt.
