This addition, renovation, and interiors refresh fulfills a young family’s goal of maximizing space and creating an environment that feels colorful and comfortable.

Downstairs, the addition provides a new in-law suite, mudroom, and expanded kitchen. Upstairs, the couple’s two daughters enjoy an enlarged shared bedroom. Renovation work included updates to the primary bath, guest bath, and laundry room. Addressing the clients’ goal of increasing storage, the project targeted efficient space use, adding closets and cabinets wherever possible.

The interiors took inspiration from the clients’ Indian heritage, with a focus on bright colors and patterns. In the kitchen, shades of blue from the island, herringbone backsplash, and geometric pendants pop against the simple white cabinetry. In the foyer, wooden coat hooks are painted with colors pulled from the powder room’s new wallpaper. Accents in the living room were selected to complement the clients’ artwork, and new window treatments in the dining room and primary bedroom enliven the spaces with colorful patterns.

In the girls’ bedroom, daybeds custom built to fit the knee walls, an assortment of colorful pillows, and a playful light fixture address their desire for a space that feels cozy and fun. The team used soothing blues and grays to create the spa-like bath desired for the client’s primary suite, while a patterned tile adds visual interest in the updated laundry room.
