As empty-nesters who had decided to stay in their large home rather than relocating to a loft in the city, these clients were ready for an update. The first priority was raising the floor of the sunken living room to create a large space that spanned from the kitchen through the dining room and into the living room for entertaining and family events. Reworking the layout of the kitchen, adding the bar seating area, and updating the aesthetic of all three spaces with a soft neutral pallette were also at the top of their list. Though not an easy feat, keeping the original fireplace and creating the look of concrete with large tiles, along with a custom built-in that houses the TV and creates a lot of additional storage on the same wall balances the end of the space opposite the kitchen.
