East Liberty Prototype Houses
mossArchitects created four ‘Prototype House’ designs commissioned by East Liberty Development, Inc. (ELDI) for the East Liberty neighborhood in Pittsburgh’s East End. The initial house designs were constructed as infill housing for a block of vacant lots on North Euclid Street and will subsequently be built individually on vacant sites scattered throughout the residential neighborhood.
The unique urban needs of the market and neighborhood are reflected in design and performance, ensuring that the demands of the market are appropriately met while respecting the context of the neighborhood. All designs incorporate modern interpretations of existing architectural elements and massing in the neighborhood/ They also reflect the quality of existing housing through the use of durable materials, sizable units, and high finish levels. All houses exceed the Energy Star qualification for new homes, a standard of overall efficiency and thermal insulation values maintained by the U.S. Department of Energy and the E.P.A. which requires efficientcies 20-30% better than standard practice.
