Farmhouse Fresh
Our clients wanted a fresh farmhouse feel that prioritized function and flow. Their kitchen felt too small for the house and needed to be functional for their growing family. The space issue was solved by pushing the kitchen into the adjacent room, which was used as a home office. We then took the remaining space and created a much-needed mudroom by adding a new entrance from the garage. The extra space in the kitchen allowed us to place an island with a farm sink that the homeowner had dreamed about.
The brown wood was tempered throughout the house by painting the trim a creamy white, using a lighter wood-look vinyl plank, and keeping the windows and doors stained. This was tied in with wood shelves and the focal point of a stained mantel. Painted mesh inserts in a few cabinet doors and a recessed niche above the range added visual interest. The opening to the pantry was enlarged, and a tall faux cabinet was installed. The remodel resulted in the brown box look of the old kitchen, giving way to a functional space with a bright transitional farmhouse feel.
Project completed by Wendy Langston's Everything Home interior design firm, which serves Carmel, Zionsville, Fishers, Westfield, Noblesville, and Indianapolis.
