Warm Family Home
Our Indianapolis design studio remodeled, redesigned, and repurposed the dining room, library, living room, entry, and powder room in this home. The homeowners are a doctor and stay-at-home mom who live there with their two children. Our inspiration for the renovation was nature and adventure. We wanted the rooms to feel finished, inviting, flow together, and have character. We chose a palette of blues, greens, woods, and stone with modern metal touches. The old den/office was utilitarian and uninspiring. As the husband is a doctor, he often takes calls in the night and would sit in a closet. Our studio wanted to create a home office for him that was cozy and inviting. We achieved this with a large chair/otto, bar cabinet, desk, dark upper walls, warm woods, color, and the centerpiece of the room is a Native painting that was meaningful to his family history — it’s hung from custom leather straps. Other highlights include a hide rug, leather/wood/woven texture in the chair, and pendants. For the library and formal dining room, we took the colors and feel from the Native painting in the den. We bathed the space in warmer colors and patterns to inspire creativity and crafts at the table. There’s a comfy settee for mom, easy-to-clean seats for the kids with arms for their special-needs son. We also specially designed the barn door with a star of life symbol to represent the doctor-husband, and we tied it all together with cozy drapes.
