Hard Working Haven

Our clients for this project wanted to refresh their kitchen's look and make it functional for large family get-togethers, accommodate daily cooking, and for canning sessions. They also considered removing the wall between the kitchen and living room because instead of using the living room as an extension to the kitchen, they used a hearth room as a small sitting area in the kitchen. In addition to the kitchen and living rooms, we were asked to refresh the powder room and the mud/laundry rooms. Their preferred design language veered towards colors, patterns, and a happy look.

Our Indiana studio achieved their vision by creating a concept and design for the space in both a 2D floor plan and 3D renderings. We also sourced all the furnishing and decided on the finishes for each room. We wanted all the spaces in the main living room to be utilized. We closed off the open formal dining room, so it became a den with artistic barn doors, which created a more private entrance/foyer. We removed the wall between the kitchen and living room, including the fireplace, to create a great room.

An open staircase was also closed off to create a wall with a dual focal point — it accommodates the TV and fireplace. We added a double-wide slider to the sunroom turning it into a happy play space that connects indoor and outdoor living areas. We reduced the size of the entrance to the powder room to create mudroom lockers. A double island was installed in the kitchen to fit the family’s cooking and entertaining needs, and we used a balance of warm (e.g., the beautiful blue cabinetry in the kitchen) and cool colors to add a happy vibe to the space.
