Farmhouse Kitchen

This project involved taking a smaller kitchen in a Wisconsin farmhouse, and creating a space for entertaining and for serious cooking. The homeowners had known they wanted to convert an adjoining room into part of the new kitchen, and had removed the separating wall. The challenge was now to create a kitchen and dining space that was both open and efficient, but also felt cozy and proportionate. In the new kitchen space, we designed a walk-in pantry for "out-of-view" storage, and a buffet for entertaining and displaying special pieces. In the kitchen work zone, we designed around the need for multiple dishwashers and a larger, 48" range. The homeowner had a local contractor and cabinet maker execute the design, and procured many of the unique fixtures herself. The existing wood floors were refinished and patched in as necessary, creating a new chapter in the history of this family farmhouse.
