This kitchen layout was tweaked to maximize efficiency and create balance and visual highlights. The clutter-collecting countertops in the back hall became important pantry storage, and a planning center was created in the kitchen for charging and organizing papers and calendars. All of the fixtures and finishes were updated with fresh, bright, smart options, toning down the oak that had dominated the spaces. Special touches include the decorative recessed tile niche at the range for everyday cooking essentials and pretty pendant lights. The mudroom received new lockers for coats, shoes, and gear, and the powder room was also updated. While the wood floors in the kitchen received a rich, neutral new finish, the mudroom and laundry room floors were replaced with a handsome, complementary luxury vinyl tile to withstand moisture and pool traffic.
