Farmsworth Residence
2011 Merit Award: Cincinnati Design Awards + Cincinnati Magazine
This suburban ‘4-square’ house was comprised of a series of small rooms arranged in a manner befitting a different era. By combining the small, introverted kitchen that doubled as the primary circulation route with the adjacent isolated dining room, the renovation produced a communal space suitable for preparing, eating and conversing with the kitchen serving as a physical and familial hub. Additionally, large openings were provided to the family room and to the under-utilized, disconnected back yard where new outdoor “rooms” were developed to work in symphony with the interior spaces.
Rooted in restraint, meticulous detailing, clean lines and a rich material palette, the new kitchen embraces the spatial limitations to create a light-filled, invigorating place to celebrate time together.
