Grandin Residence

2012 Honorable Mention: Cincinnati CRANawards
2011 Honor Award: Cincinnati Design Awards + Cincinnati Magazine

The original layout of this existing house consisted of inwardly focused rooms that were physically isolated from the exterior and from each other. The layout was not only programmatically dysfunctional, but inhibited the social nature of the family.

The remodel and addition sought to provide casual, light-filled living with the ability to accommodate large gatherings. The single cohesive space is divided into four overlapping zones for living, working, cooking, and eating. The architectural response employs a large covered porch to link the interior and exterior spaces while expanding the living areas. A series of large doors are utilized to emphasize both the visual and physical reconnection to the site.
