Generational summer retreat

This summer home was built by Chris Hummel of Lake Geneva. It replaced a small cottage with lots of character that the family took down to re-build a larger home with more space to camp out for weeks on end. The millwork and details in the original cottage were built back into the design of this new build. Every nook and cranny has something charming to make you smile.

The understated entry to this new cottage re-used the 100 year old paneling from the cottage that was taken down. The senitment and the re-purpose makes coming home have new meaning.
Generational summer retreat
The distinctive dining space can grow from 8-12 without any effort. The leaded glass doors on the built in server were re-purposed from the original cottage. This space is open concept but ceiling and column details help give each area meaning and purpose.

The boys bunk room is mirrored with the the girls bunkroom... they both have a very classic cottage flavor on steriods. The fun color and accentuated shapes of the ceiling bring this space to life!

The back entry hall has a set of staircases that get you up to the bedroom suites or down to the play areas. Shiplap and medium stained woods blend to give a nautical cottage feel. The millwork in all of rooms of this home were thoughtfully planned and expertly installed.

The main floor hall has a rhythm of columns and trim detail that make this large home feel cozy and welcoming. You know that you are at the lake when you pass through to every room.

The stained glass window over the sink was from the original cottage and now welcomes the family to all cook together and share meals. Memories are made here. Each wall has a function which works for one chef or many. The pantry door is hiding floor to ceiling shelving for bulk overflow.

One of four bedroom suites... each having it's own personality when it comes to the furnishing~ welcomes each grown family member back to the cottage of their youth. Every room has a dormer seating space with something of memory from the original cottage re-puposed.

The girls bunk room mirrors the boys bunk room. Both have window seats and a triple run of twin beds from the original cottage. Handmade quilts adorn all the beds and create a super charming space.

The screen room runs the full length of the house and offers dining space and casual seating for the whole family. Vinyl retractable window coverings allow three seasons of use and wind block on questionable days. This is the place for tea in the afternoon and everything in between.

The boys bunk room is bright with color and can speak to kids as young as three and still say home to teens. All of the quilts are family heirlooms as are the twin beds that came from Grandpa's era.

The custom built in window seats in the bunk rooms are flanked with drawer and clothing storage. This window seat has a full sized twin mattress making for one more bed in the room!
