We built this modestly sized house to have a sense of spaciousness and grandeur that defies its size. Situated at the edge of the Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course in Santa Fe’s Las Campanas, our challenge was to create a home that could pivot between being open to the green and the expansive mountain views beyond or serve as a private space depending on the whim of the owner. It was also important to showcase the magnificent sunset views to the west and to use architectural and landscaping cues that merged a modern sensibility with the nearby rolling hills stocked with piñon and juniper. The interior feels expansive because of the high ceilings, brilliant plaster and creative skylight placement, complemented by sliding interior doors and massive disappearing pocket doors that bring the outside in when desired.
