Happy to be in MT. P

This fresh kitchen renovation was a dramatic change for this Mt. Pleasant family. The refrigerator was relocated and a peninsula eliminated in favor of an island. The appliances were replaced and the pretty cabinet color was selected to compliment the aqua shade in the sparkling quartz.

A little corner open to the family room was reserved for a bar area complete with wine storage.

The new island takes advantage of the huge window and view to the yard beyond.
Prep with a view
Appliances were relocated to improve the flow and function of the kitchen. A previous cook-top double wall oven was replaced with a free standing range, plus a wall oven / microwave combination.

The new configuration allows for prep on the left and right of the range AND the sink at the island. There is additional counter between the oven/microwave and the refrigerator.

The floral hex tile was selected to compliment the colors found in the cabinets and quartz counters.
Bohemian Backsplash
Located across from the sink the morning coffee is close at hand. This section of counter also serves as the baking prep area and as a dessert station during holiday entertaining.

A generous single sink in the island is situated with plenty of prep space left and right. There is a dishwasher and dual waste bins along with overhang for seating and open shelves.

One critical request for the husband was that he could sit at the table and enjoy the view to the yard whilst reading the morning papers. The large picture window affords a lovely view of the yard.
Breakfast with a view
Meal planning is easy with storage close at hand for cook-books at the end of the island.
What's cooking?
Before
BEFORE... the cooktop was located on the side wall, there was a small island and the sink was in the peninsula.

Conveniently located near the family room the kitchen is no longer closed off. Previously the peninsula prevented easy access, this layout is much more family friendly.

BEFORE... the back wall held small appliances while the peninsula made the kitchen feel closed in. There was minimal work space due to the location of the cooktop on the side wall, the refrigerator in the back corner created a bottle neck for traffic whenever it was opened as it blocked the door...

The slight pattern and subtle tones on the quartz is complimented by the bold floral tile which repeats many of the same aqua, cream and gray colors.

Angles and hex patterns are repeated here with the knob and tile selection. The cabinet doors have a bevel too, repeating this design element.

Pull outs flank the range, one for spices (left) and on the right storage bins for utensils with additional shelves below.

Details
This wide drawer near the range has an angled insert to allow for storage of kitchen accessories. Longer items can fit in the angled spaces, for example the rolling pin would not fit in an traditional "front to back" drawer divider.

Cutlery is collected and stored effortlessly in this handsome wood insert.

Clean up is a breeze at this island with dual bins (trash/recycling) on the left of the sink and the dishwasher on the right side.

This porcelain tile has a lovely floral pattern and feels a little bohemian in this otherwise tailored kitchen.

Deep drawers are ideal for storage of bulky items. Pots and pans, bowls and containers are close at hand.

The back wall of the kitchen is a treasure trove of storage. Twin pantries flank the counters each with roll out trays and deep adjustable shelves.

The tile pattern is not really appreciated until you see several tiles together... each corner joins up with the adjacent piece to create full flowers.

BEFORE... notice the deep refrigerator on the left and the cooktop in the back. These appliances (along with the sink and dishwasher) were relocated to create a functional workspace the clients love.
