Highlands Kitchen Remodel
This project is an exciting transformation in Denver's Highland neighborhood. The original kitchen had lots of vintage character, with some original elements remaining. However, a previous remodel had compromised much of the original character and had introduced odd storage and poor quality materials. As a person who uses her kitchen a large amount, our client was looking to make several large modifications to a space that was fairly limiting. The first goal was to remove a closet from the neighboring bedroom which created an invasive jutt into the kitchen at the north end of the space. The second goal was to create a true galley kithchen and to maximize storage with taller cabinets and a better use of the kitchen's north end. The third goal was to introduce a new gas range and range hood, as well as open up the kitchen's entry wall to create a small breakfast nook and more of an open-concept plan flowing between the kitchen and dining rooms. New sleek slab cabinets were introduced and upper cabinets feature frosted glass doors to lighten up the visual mass on the walls. We added new stainless steel appliances, gorgeous white quartz countertops, and new ceiling lighting. The wall between the kitchen and dining was removed and re-structured to allow a small bar with three contemporary bentwood bar stools. A dramatic new apron sink was installed and the walls were covered in glass subway tiles in a sage color with fresh white grout. The walls were painted in a warm neutral and the existing spice cabinet at the south end of the kitchen was given a fresh update as well. We retained the existing hardwood floors as well as the window and door trim, and we love the way these pop against the new additions. What a beautiful project for a wonderful client!
