Iconic Mid-century - Home Remodel

This project won a NARI National Contractor of the Year award in 2012.
The homeowner was a life-long city resident so she was apprehensive about moving to the "suburbs" and also intrigued by the possibilities of the small home in Tiburon.

The mid-century style home was dated and unattractive to begin with. The owner wanted a complete update, including all the mechanical systems, interior, and landscape. The scope of work included:
• several small additions, totaling about 200 sf
• complete interior remodel, including kitchen, bathrooms, and public spaces
• complete exterior remodel, including new windows, doors, and siding
• enclosing the carport to create a garage, new entry, and laundry
• creating a new entry and driveway
• new decks and landscaping

This is the view straight ahead of the entry doors, with a huge new window highlighting the beautiful deck, fountain, and garden beyond. The dark wall helps draw the eye to the outside.

The newly landscaped garden is now connected to the house. The back deck has continuous lines in the bench and steps in keeping with the clean midcentury style.

Turning to the right, you step up into a raised hall, with the round window of the dining room straight ahead, creating an intriguing vista of the bay beyond.

By flipping a switch, this round window goes from translucent to clear.

The new kitchen features clean lines and modern appliances. The cabinets on the left extend into the dining room, drawing the eye to the new round window and Bay view beyond.

Mirrored panels in the upper hall reflect the view of the bay. The round closet on the right holds coats and can be turned to hide the clothes from view.
