For this balustrade, the home owner wanted something that was rooted in traditional Italian design but with obvious custom flourishes. The Maynards worked with the client to come up with a S-scroll based design that utilized various sizes and shapes of material for good visual interest. The lower section of each large scroll was wrapped with Acanthus leaves. By introducing some lyrical, almost Nouveau elements, both on the scrollwork and as short panels at the turns, the traditional S-scrolls have contemporary counter points that add variety of design yet aren't over bearing.

The firescreens were designed for each room in which they reside, but still to have nods to the balustrade which sit center stage when you enter the home.
