"We start by visiting the space and getting to know our client. Sometimes, on the first visit, the client allows us to measure the space the following day. This is particularly handy when we are traveling long distances. Then we may email designs back and forth, but it usually doesn't take too many sketches until we agree on a design and price, if we have really all asked the right questions in our initial meeting and gotten to know one another.

So back in the studio we order our materials and with a deposit, we start the work. That's always a messy, hot job! Bending and forming steel, bronze and other metals is never boring. Sometimes we send images of the work happening along the way, and other times samples may be sent and finish details worked out. Especially when architects and other professionals are involved. Matt does the heaviest hammering and I also work in the shop, and handle all finishes.

Installation day might be the next time we see our client! Matt and I are present on every installation, although on large installations we bring a crew of helpers (the crew are studio assistants who work in our shop). Fifteen years ago it was just Matt and I, but we've come a long way since then! Every installation is a little like Christmas morning, and we hold our breath and are always nervous. Right up until unveiling.

We try to never weld on site, as we use mechanical fasteners and assembly is planned from the very first day. We try to be very considerate of your space.

I try to follow up within a few months, and revisit the space with our photographer, because as good as our cameras are, Alan's photos are always better! We remove any identifying details from our photos and our clients' privacy is always of utmost importance,".
