Maximum Utilization of a Small Yard

The owners of this townhome had an old deck, hot tub, and arbor that made their small yard feel dark & cramped. They wanted a natural-looking, lush yard with a dining area, sitting area, & room for a hammack & fruit trees. We squeezed it all in & it still feels more open & spacious. We replaced part of the retaining wall with a dry-stack rock wall & incorporated a pondless-waterfall to drown own traffic noise & provide a soothing atmosphere. We added a heater & LED low voltage lights to a new open-style arbor for the flagstone dining patio. People can also stay warm throughout the year in the sitting area around a propane-fueled fire pit. The citrus tree is espaliered against the only sunny wall. We repaired & painted the walls and added vines that will eventually green up all the walls. We were restricted by HOA rules as to what we could do in the front but were able to cover the large concrete access door with pots, widen the stepping area near the driveway with flagstones, and replace the useless lawn with lower-water plants. We moved their espaliered fruit trees to sunnier spots in the yard.
