Mid Century Redux

A bland 1960s split level is completely transformed, with simple but dramatic alterations to the existing facades as well as a modern addition to the back yard.

This modern family room is open to the kitchen behind it, with cabinets and counters actually extending into the space itself, bringing convenience and style into the new space.

Simple cladding and window changes to a drab 1960s split level bring a new contemporary spirit, with a combination of natural cedar siding and stucco.

Viewed from the back garden, the new addition is a contemporary cube with large clerestory windows that draw light well into the existing rooms of the house.

A new front entrance, turned toward the garage rather than the sidewalk, is wide and open, with a generous landing and stuccoed concrete walls.
