The kitchen in this 1951 cottage home had an inefficient layout lacking in basic kitchen needs and space for more than one cook. The space was walled-in, preventing interaction with adjacent spaces. Having lived in the home 40+ years, the client’s deep emotional connection proved to be challenging during the design process. She had hired multiple designers to reimagine the space, but never felt comfortable moving forward. Design development for the project—estimated at six months—spanned almost a year because of the client’s need to explore all options. Ultimately, she chose a design presented early in the process.
