O'Conner Bathroom

This project was in the design stages but is now completed. The process can be sometimes slow or even frustrating but it is quite necessary to make sure the end product is totally correct. The O'Conner family live alone in this Rancho Penasquitos home and are a very active couple. With children & grandchildren as well as relatives and friends stopping by to visit, they have people stay over quite often. This bath is a must re-do as far as they are concerned because it is used often by their friends & visitors.
As a Hawaiian couple with roots back to the islands their design is reflecting that look & feel but with a modern setting. AOC

Voila! The magic wand works incredible well! Everything they wanted. Square sink raised to 36" height with a Silestone vanity top and beautiful stone back splash. The vanity cabinet has 3 drawers & double doors fit perfectly in a 39" cabinet.

Take note of the lowered soffit with florescent lighting. This will all be gone and redone with brighter and strategically located lights. The huge wall mirror will be replaced with a smaller framed one.

Vanity top in Silestone with back splash in linear stone complimenting the shower and floor tile. Seen in some later shots. Light fixture is a complimenatry fit!

This angle shows the detail of spacing for the toilet and side view of the cabinet.

Before
This whole corner will do without that 80's "vanity extension over the toilet tank" routine. This was so commonplace in homes built in the 70's & 80's.

Now take a look at the whole layout including the stone floor. Medallions of stone yes but the field tile is actually porcelain for strength and longevity. Tile actually has a grainy feel to it with all the texture you would expect from a natural stone.

Another before shot from a different angle. The floor tile is actually not a bad choice but because of the 1/2" grout lines it just doesn't fit current designs. This will go also.

The ceiling picture tells you a lot about the poor lighting in the room because of the dropped soffit. The area hurt the most by this is the shower. Very, very dark inside while using it.

Here are the results....... A brand new 120 CFM fan with a separate switch and the soffit LONGGGGGG gone! New lighting replaces the old flourescent soffit.

Here is the pride of the project...This all wood cabinet was cheaper than a Home Depot special order one. 36" high custom made here in San Diego, the alder wood gave us a beautiful natural grain look with a variation in the stain work. Oil rubbed pulls balance out the look and feel.

I wanted to show you the beautiful transition to the existing hall wood floor. Note how well the color tiles work with the wood. Very Very Nice!

The shower gets gutted and new tile will extend higher up the wall with the shower head being raised several inches.

The magic wand works again! Tiled to the ceiling with the same style porcelain but chosen in three different colorways randomly placed to give a real stone effect similar to slate.

Oil rubbed bronze fixtures with stone trim 4 ft up the wall with carefully placed and built niches. Notice the seat? Custom made to withstand 350 lbs! Getting a seat to fit in a small 35" x 35" shower is a trick but this angled seat is perfect! Finally notice the special order shower pan. The color...

Here is a VERY important feature! The shower has it's own light with a switch to illuminate the bathing experience instead of being in the dark as it was originally.

A picture of the old shower. Very simple and plain with plain white tile.

Now look at this!!!! Oil rubbed bronze shower door with clear glass enclosing & lighting up a new beautiful shower. I also want to take advantage of this photo to show you the small 4" tiles that are facing the front. These were specially cut to fit the shower frame and give it a more hand crafted...

This is a good shot of the lower part of the shower with the door installed. This may also give you the closest view of the shower pan speckled design. Also the shower seat is very clear here so that you can see that the size is matched perfectly to the available space to shower in.

This shot gives you a good look at the half frameless door. The bottom frame helps keep water inside and provides for stronger strength and protection against possible breakage of the glass.

And here is the final shot of the a beautiful shower door handle in Oil rubbed bronze! There you have it! Another miraculously transformed bath!
