Old School
The former Hawley School was converted into condos in the
1980’s. This Northampton location is ideal being within a block to historic Main Street- an artsy desirable town with many attractions. The typical 80’s re-do left the space in need of a major face-lift. The 4th floor condo was attic space containing massive timber roof trusses that still support the structure. This time the beams were uncovered and featured as part of the “old school “ charm. From here the design aesthetic took a 180-degree turn and all the contemporary elements were added. After all, the client was in search of a hip, cool space that would compliment his lifestyle. The wish list included a fireplace in the living room, which presented challenges such as compliance with MA fire code and the condo association rules limiting venting options. After an extensive search, a 3’ vent free fireplace was purchased solving our fireplace dilemma. This vent free unit is approved by stringent MA fire code and can literally go just about anywhere.
