Site Specific 5: Linear Burner System Outdoor
The architect was challenged to design a three season room that faced due
West with the following requirements: (1) Provide a structure that shielded the harsh afternoon sun for guests using the patio. (2) Encompass the outdoor room within existing walls on three sides. Preserve the view of the beautiful sunset to the West from the eat-in kitchen. (3) Provide an outdoor fireplace with a TV above for watching sports and entertaining friends. (4) Provide a separate area for children to gather and roast marshmallows. (5) Provide a screen to the neighbors to the Northwest. (6) Introduce high quality materials into the design that were also low maintenance. (7) Finally, and perhaps the greatest challenge, was to preserve the views from the master suite which looked out directly above the new roofline.
Materials were specified to blend harmoniously together and that would be low
maintenance, including HardiePlank siding, Azek trim, copper gutters, rain
chains, natural stone and a gas fire pit. If a traditional fireplace was installed, the chimney would have blocked the views from the second floor master suite. Therefore, the architect's obvious choice was the use of Spark's natural Linear Burner System.
The designers creatively gave the illusion that a traditional fireplace was installed while simultaneously providing a natural screen to the Northwest and support for the TV.
