Palo Alto Upgrade

We are SO proud this project received the 2014 ASID Gold Award for Singular Space! Congratulations design team!

After 30 years in their two-story traditional home, nestled within a tree-lined neighborhood of old Palo Alto, our clients decided to renovate their worn and dated kitchen. Built in 1935, the home’s original interior was dark, with confined spaces. Adding to the house’s existing footprint was not an option, so we reorganized the kitchen to better connect it to the surrounding spaces. The new plan opens the kitchen up to the breakfast nook, family room, and hallway leading to the rest of the house. Windows and doors were reconfigured and added to increase the visual dialog between indoor and outdoor spaces, and to allow in an abundance of natural light. To reflect our clients’ elegant demeanor and busy lifestyle, a quiet but sophisticated palate of materials was used, along with clean design details. The result is a modernist update that embodies simplicity, connection to nature, and strong family ties.
