Permeable Patio

Average sized backyard gets a functional and artistically designed permeable patio. Rather than shedding rainwater off into the landscape, we prepared this patio with an open rock foundation and chip stone between the patio pavers to allow natural filtration into the soil.

We built this beautiful, one of a kind, permeable patio using Techo Bloc MIsta, Antika, and Villagio pavers in November 2020. This patio shape was designed initially by the homeowner, and we ended up choosing the specific pavers to use and how they'd all incorporate into it.

We used color blends called Shale Gray and also Onyx black for this design to give it that WOW factor! It sure does pop and adds unique spaces and dimension to the overall space.

We used granite chips to sweep into the joints of all the pavers. Water will be able to freely pass right into the patio and not sheet off like it would on concrete. This lot had reached its impervious surface limit, so in order to have a patio here it had to be permeable...meaning the ground...

On top of our limestone foundation rock, we added a layer of granite chips for the pavers to be laid on. This process is crucial for us to get the proper slope and attain a perfectly smooth area for us to lay pavers on top of. We do not use sand for this. Sand will weep down into the foundation...
