Rustic Chateau
The clients loved their pool but hated their backyard with its undersized deck, plain concrete slab and hilly terrain. They wanted a structure that embraced the husband’s affinity for wildlife and grilling and the wife’s French country decorating style. It needed to provide better space for cooking and entertaining, extend enjoyment of outdoors in inclement weather and seasons, and play well with its natural surroundings.
The designer responded with an open air pavilion that serves as an entertainment hub for the pool, fire pit and in-ground hot tub, complete with premium grilling area, central fireplace and comfortable seating.

Bar post reclaimed from an old barn on the owner’s hunting property for a sentimental touch
Each space is delineated with its own materials: Concrete “wood plank” pavers in dining area and living room with clay brick details from the fireplace and two travertine patterns, as well as New York Bluestone accented by cobblestones salvaged from the streets of Duluth.
Custom mantels, storage doors and table were made from 300-year-old reclaimed lumber
Floating granite bar features hidden steel spine
Artisan decorative concrete counter was shop formed and finished on site.
Exquisite custom stonework and paving blends a variety of materials and patterns.
The granite bar “floats” between the end cabinet and a reclaimed barn post is supported by a hidden steel spine
