Suwanee Kitchen

Designed to bring attention to the beautiful openness this home already possessed; we took apart the original unimaginative builder grade cabinets and redesigned the workspace for flow and entertaining. Our homeowner has a love of French inspired design and entertains friends on a regular basis so we needed to marry both form and function to create a beauty that works just as hard as they do.

First up we designed wall to wall, full ceiling height cabinets and filled them full of organizers and nooks that hold their supplies for easy access. The full depth cabinet drawers and the drawers in the pantry allow for full use of space and easy access to the often hard to reach back space of cabinets. The centerpiece of the kitchen is the over-sized 4ft X 8ft island we designed to anchor the space with its wide stance in the center of the room. We installed an in-cabinet trash can on gliders to hide the mess of day to day waste disposal. Under the kitchen sink we installed a mini drawer on gliders for easy access to kitchen cleaners and misc items. Our cabinet maker created hidden cabinet doors on the back side of the island, hidden by the seating but still easily accessible for kitchen overflow.

The custom color on the island was created by working with a desire to not have a flat finish color; we used a base color and rubbed another on top giving the island a gray wash. The wall cabinets are bright white and have trim to mirror the island. The glass doors on the wall cabinets have an 'X' design to compliment the large 'X' on each side of the island. Our homeowners loved the look of marble but did not want the worn patina after years of use that is common in the stone. Instead of using marble on the counter tops we opted for a beveled marble subway tile for their back splash and had our large piece of granite 'antiqued' to give it a vintage look that will retain 'install day appearance' for years to come. The soap stone counter-tops next to the range will age to a lovely gray after years of use; complimenting the gray color of the island.
