This 'destination' screened porch answered my clients' desire to have a bug-free zone from where they could enjoy their back yard. Above an urban park and creek, with significant road noise in the yard, a series of cascading ponds were added to mask the noise pollution, animate the yard and provide some cooling. Water flows downhill from one koi pond into a marsh pond--complete with a stone bridge--and back into a lower koi pond before being pumped back uphill to the first pond.

Design included the landscape master planning, pond design, retaining wall design and the design of the "Texas Tea House'.

My clients are collectors of Asian art and suggested looking to traditional Japanese Tea-houses for inspiration for the porch design. The design is a hybrid of the sense of details and materials of those tea houses with traditional building forms.
