This 1970s vintage residence in Tiburon was ripe for an update. In addition to a new exterior that required much less maintenance than its original cedar shingle siding, the owners were looking for usable outdoor space and a better flow throughout the main areas of the house.

Without changing the house's size or structure, we installed very low-maintenance cement fiber siding, specifically a combination of Nichiha Vintagewood vertical siding and Hardie Plank horizontal siding. This helped to differentiate the shape of the central house from the extensions and to delineate more interesting and cleaner contours. New windows and sliding doors by Fleetwood were also installed.

To create a more modern and inviting outdoor space for entertaining, we enlarged and enclosed the front patio. On the back deck steel cable custom guardrails define the area and are a catalyst for a spectacular waterfront view.

Inside we opened up a new media room in the middle of the house, improved the flow, simplified and brightened the materials, and changed an old gas-burning fireplace to an efficient Ortal corner fireplace.
