Universal design principles are at the core of this kitchen. Dual islands at a reduced height accommodate a wheelchair bound home chef; one features a trough sink for food preparation, the other a cooktop and microwave drawer with specialty pullouts for frequently used cookware, utensils and cooking oils. Chunky granite tops wrap the back and sides of the island cabinets set on pedestals lending a sculptural quality to the design. “Pop-up” electric outlets add convenience while preserving an un-cluttered look.
A pull-out coffee-station is built into the side of a storage wall with lighted display cabinet and concealed refrigerator drawers. The clean-up sink and dishwasher were also arranged for wheelchair accessibility.
