Vibrant Nursery
My goal when designing this nursery was to create a room that could grow with the little girl for years to come. Everything from the furniture to the artwork was selected with this flexibility in mind.
The new paint palette is anchored with crisp khaki walls and white furniture, while bold stripes zig and zag around the main corner over the crib to provide visual interest for both parents and the baby. The stripes also serve to visually enlarge the room and create movement. Artwork from the homeowners' existing collection gives the baby interesting colors and patterns to study during diaper changes and nap time. Selecting pieces of art that aren’t nursery themed gives the room longevity because they could still be used when she is a teenager, though most likely she’ll switch them out for posters of favorite pop stars or her favorite scientists.
Many of the furniture pieces, including the bookshelf, armchair, side table, and storage towers were reused from the homeowners' collection. The new dresser can stay as a dresser once diapers are a thing of the past, and the crib converts to a toddler bed and then a full size bed as she grows. New colorful baskets on the bookshelf provide flexible storage for everything from blankets and extra clothes now to toys, doll clothes, and school supplies in the future.
