Interior Designer - Suzanne Lichten Csongor, SLC Interiors

With a challenging slopped site, this residence identifies and elevates three distinct zones via a stone retaining walls inspired by the fieldstone walls of the surrounding countryside. Each stone wall travels through both the site and the building and becomes visible boundaries between public, private, and utility spaces. The lower zone features a gabled volume containing the master suite, private office, children’s rooms, and guest suite. The central zone hosts two gabled volumes with the family’s active-living spaces of the main life-room and dining room in one, the kitchen, breakfast room, and working pantry in the other. The upper zone creates a parking court to remove vehicular traffic from the living areas, and contains a large multipurpose mudroom and garage. Austere and elegant interior finishes compliment the building’s iconic rural forms, characterizing this residence as a modern interpretation of old-world style.
