Looking to add charm to your house? Looking to extend your living space? Look no further than a screened porch. If any project could be classified as "low impact" it would be a front porch addition. Since all of the work is external to the house, the disruption to your daily routine is minimal. The impact, however, can be dramatic.

Flat Front

After removing some overgrown landscaping and demolishing the front entry, the new porch was framed up. A simple 8'x20' structure capped by a shed roof, the impact and dimension of the front porch is immediately felt as the floor framing begins.

Framing

After the concrete post footings were poured, rough framing can begin. Here, the floor structure is in place, supported by the footings and anchored to the house. Once complete, it will be covered with ply. wd. decking.

Floor Deck

Often overlooked from an aesthetic standpoint, proper and sufficient structure is critical to a successful, safe, and long-lasting project. DLD initially specs structural sizing and location, decisions that get reviewed by lumber yard and the builder.

Structure

After the floor deck is finished, framing goes vertical. This is the most exciting phase of a project. Proportion, scale, views, light conditions, and overall spatial conditions - are initially defined.

With roof sheathing secured, a true sense of space and enclosure is established. With the bulk of rough framing finished, the project moves on to the details.
