Edgewater Refresh

Like so many older homes, this house’s kitchen needed a little extra attention. Floors, walls, countertops, backsplash were all recycled and replaced with selections reflective of the homeowners love of an artisanal, rustic European aesthetic.

Taupe white granite countertops with a satin finish were the starting point for the complete material redo. A fresh take on a familiar tradition, handmade subway tiles with a slightly radiused surface and toothy texture weave across the backsplash creating subtle shadows and introduce a sophisticated visual complexity.

A large ceramic apron sink was retro-fit into a new sink base cabinet, which was custom built and stained to match existing casework. Distinctive sink faucet and pot filler add whimsical feature elements to a reserved material palette. Custom milled crown molding and trim visually anchor the upper cabinets to the ceiling and introduce a subtle but necessary level of refinement and detail.

Gone are the 12” square white floor tiles replaced by 5” wide quarter-sawn oak hardwood floors, lightly tinted to draw out their distinctive graining. And finally, new custom-built and finished storage cabinets now flank an existing arched opening, extending the look and utility of the kitchen into the adjacent breakfast nook.
