A House for Gathering

While the layout of the existing house included significant square footage, the spaces were not laid out to accommodate an active family of 4. The architect was asked to renovate and add to the existing residence to provide larger gathering spaces both indoors and outdoors, as well as improve many other aspects of the home’s esthetic and function. The project includes a family room addition that is open to a larger kitchen with an outdoor deck immediately off of the family room. The deck and family room are built over an existing lower-level garage. Other interior improvements include a new pantry and powder room, improvements to the formal living room, a new primary suite, 2 renovated bathrooms, and a complete renovation of the lower level (which opens to grade) to include a media room, mudroom, exercise room, wine storage, a home office, and a bathroom and laundry for the pool. For outdoor spaces, the existing stone walls from a previously demolished portion of the house provide a framework for a new design, skillfully woven into these stone elements. Exterior spaces include a covered outdoor kitchen with island, a seating area with a TV and masonry fireplace, a dining space and a new pool. Two sets of new exterior stairs link the main living space down to these new outdoor spaces at grade.
