This backyard design had a number of challenges, including a steep slope and complex architectural angles. The homeowners wanted to create a large patio space for entertaining while retaining much of the lawn area for play. The solution was to set the patio into the slope, where a seat wall around the patio functions as both a retaining wall and extra seating area. Built in lighting and lots of plantings soften the space and offer year round interest.
