This family of 7 needed a highly functional space to meet their needs and the existing kitchen just wasn't up to the task.

The first item on the wish list was lots of seating around the island...check!. Seven seats allows for family dinners, while still incorporating storage on BOTH sides of the island. Furthermore, it was important to the father of the household that the seating arrangement allow for conversation, which is why the seating wraps around the end of the island so that everyone can talk to each other..

It was also important to the homeowners that every available space be utilized. A closet around the corner from the fridge was converted into an extra storage/work area. The microwave and the cabinet next to it are recessed into a formerly unused area under the stairs .

The design of the space is a mix of modern and traditional. Sleek flat-front cabinets combine with Shaker doors, copper pendants, and a stone backsplash for just the right blend of comfortable and contemporary.
