Scarboro Art Deco

Looking at this bright, fresh kitchen with its distinctive decorative flair, it’s difficult to imagine its dingy beginnings.
Faced with a dark, closed-off kitchen and terribly outdated cabinets and appliances, the homeowners desired a bright, open space with plenty of storage and high-end appliances. Also high on their list of priorities was to include details that reflected the Art Deco motif evident on the outside of their charming 1920’s home.
First the space was opened up by removing some of the walls and adding a set of French doors to the back garden. This not only brought in more light, but also improved traffic flow and gave the whole main floor a much more spacious look and feel.
The custom cabinetry was specially designed for this kitchen, and incorporates many Art Deco details: the cabinet hardware and the stepped profiling on the cabinet doors; the unique mouldings and corbels; and the decorative hood fan with Art Deco rosettes. A walnut island and maple hardwood floors add warmth, and the in-floor heating ensures that this warmth is not only visual, but physical as well.
Appliances include a Sub-Zero fridge, Wolf range, and Miele coffeemaker and speed oven. Hardworking storage accessories such as pot drawers, roll-out trays, drawer organizers, tray storage and a pull-out garbage and recycling unit ensure that this kitchen is not only beautiful, but functional as well.
The result of this remodel is a classic and elegant, yet comfortable and inviting space.
