Chilmark Residence

As a team, the architect, builder, owner and interior designer of this 7,000 square foot new construction home began with schematic design and moved into design development with both architecture and interior design furnishings.

Perched on a hill overlooking South Beach, this home is all about light, view, architecture and integrating existing furniture pieces into the design. Using an inventory of furniture pieces that the owner wanted to use in the house, the designer assessed the plans and made revisions to the floor plan, shifting walls, to accommodate the placement of the antiques. All the fabrics selected were coordinated both with the architectural design and the carpet designs.
Every element used in this home was purposely selected as a unique piece of art from the architecture, to the profile of the furnishings, to the light fixtures and the art on the walls.

This type of collaboration on a project is rare. Most architects typically build so that the exterior of the home takes precedence over the interior. Working on this from the early design stage to the installation and set-up of the design contents allowed Gil Walsh Interiors to ensure the complete integration of the total design.
This home has been featured in many national home designed magazines, including Homes on the Water, Beautiful Homes and Cape and Island.
