Clean & Comfortable

The owner of this comfortable family home wanted the clean, paint-like look of Showplace Antiques, but also wanted mid-toned warmth. The lovely Antique Light Mocha finish fit the need perfectly in this ambitious remodel. The applied-molding Hamilton door style brings out the subtle Carmel glazing. A ceramic backsplash with glass accents is in close harmony with the cabinetry, while a scraped-maple floor provides warm contrast.

The kitchen design is a wide U-shape with a large central island. At the end of the island, a taller cabinet provides clear definition between the kitchen and adjacent dining area. Note the smart horizontal wine rack integrated into the end cabinet.

This homeowner knows cutting-edge appliances, and put them to good use. The two-drawer dishwasher blends into the island, and is highly convenient. The drawer-type microwave is near the gas cooktop and wall ovens for efficient workflow.

Since this was a remodel, the designer had to accommodate the preexisting locations of doorways and work around traffic flows in the home. To achieve this, cabinetry was laid out with a modular strategy. The large module holding the screen combines lots of useful storage with a great spot for a TV, as well as lighted display cabinets. Note how that cabinetry was run all the way to the ceiling, and bordered with a strong molding treatment. The glazing adds a pinstriped look to the contours of the moldings.

A small entry bath adjacent to the kitchen also uses the Showplace Antique finish on the Covington door style.
