Reflecting on past projects, I came across my first speculative remodel -- a rewarding exercise in creating more usable space within an existing footprint. By moving the back door from an adjacent area containing laundry and half-bath, into the kitchen, space became available for a full bathroom and hall-accessible laundry closet. The kitchen benefited by gaining direct access to the patio, more light , more counter space, plus an efficient storage wall.
