Kensington Spec House; Master Suite Addition

A charming 1930's two-bedroom home on a quiet Kensington street tempted me to don my developer hat and add on. The existing home's front was popped forward for interest and added space, as was the dining room at the then-back of the house. The dining room expansion was necessary to create the start of a hallway with powder room, then taking a turn for a laundry room, cathedral-ceiling "library" and the master bedroom suite addition. The one-car garage was expanded as tandem spaces or use of the add-on as a studio. A lovely, private courtyard was created amid the new structures.

The new master bedroom suite is connected to the original house through a "library" hallway featuring a cathedral ceiling and multiple glass doors for courtyard access.

A period hexagonal window was preserved for the formal entryway and a fireplace added in the living room; new planting enhanced the landscaping. The adjacent popped out front bedroom with bow window lends added stature.

The front bedroom was extended forward and a bow window added with a new whimsical roof line.
