Work-Live High-Rise Apartment

Downtown San Diego in the Marina District. I turned the master bedroom area, which has the best views, into my office space. The project earned an award of excellence in furniture design from the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and was published in San Diego Magazine's August 2007 edition of AT HOME, "Sky-High Style".
A wing wall creates a formal entry with niche baskets for keys and such. The soffit, with dimmable down lights, extends to highlight the antique English sideboard.

Antique English sideboard is complemented by the contemporary glass table and leather and chrome chairs. The wall storage boxes have touch-latch tambour door fronts.

Custom leaning mirrors were crafted to mimic the tall glass doors to the patio, maximizing city and water views.

The Italian limestone indoor flooring was carried onto the L-shaped patio, creating a feeling of enhanced spaciousness and continuity.

Custom dimmable lighting in the art shelves highlight display items. An electric fireplace adds interest and whimsy, interacting with city lights and water views.

A small galley kitchen necessitated added storage. An artful solution was devised with backlighting a louvred-door cabinet and small wine rack in the entryway flanked with counter height stools. A mosaic detail in the limestone flooring adds interest.

The large home office also incorporates a library and entertainment area.

Recognized with an ASID Furniture Design Excellence Award, the expansive desk has storage drawers on either side with a large counter top for plans or documents. The dropped area accommodates office equipment, keeping it out of view.

A walkway was preserved away from the tall cantilevered windows, allowing space for additional hanging and flat-file drawers. The project was recognized with an ASID Furniture Design Excellence Award.

The hall bath doubles as guest bathroom, with limestone flooring seamlessly run from the main living spaces, highlighted with random colorful mosaics.
