A client's fountain is repurposed as a planter, saving precious resources while adding color to a hot, but shady, courtyard.

Once drainage holes were drilled into the concrete fountain's basin, drip irrigation tubing was then threaded through the holes. With planting mix added, along with organic fertilizer, heat-tolerant seasonal annuals flourished, softening edges and bringing color to an otherwise "blah" (see Before Photo) space.

This planting thrived with little maintenance for five months, but could have easily remained until frost. Now the converted fountain displays beautiful seasonal compositions throughout the year, conserving water instead of wasting it.
