Custom Backyard Kitchen Garden
Having inherited three raised beds with the property, this client knew she wanted to enjoy fresh vegetables but wasn't sure how to go about it. Timing is everything in the desert garden, and knowing not only what to plant but when to plant it is a must.
The garden was started in December from seed, and then transplants were used in early spring to transition from cool-season crops to warm-season. Edible flowers and other flowers to attract pollinators add color and life. Both perennial herbs, such as thyme and sage, and seasonal annual herbs, were included in the design.
It is now maintained organically and the planting changes throughout the seasons, with a rotation of crops planned for next year.
