Spacious Backyard with Pond and Path

"Every morning when I step outside I have a bouquet to greet me!" the homeowner shared with me when I returned three months after the install was completed.

When I began the project, the yard was a vast expanse in need of structure. The homeowners wanted more shade, a pond, and an area for a shed and raised vegetable beds.

The patio was extended and a pond designed, with additional trees--mesquites-- added for shade. Existing California pepper, ash, and chaste trees remained in the yard and became part of the new design, with a winding path connecting the various areas. "Everyone loves the path--the dogs, the kids, everyone!" she said.

A selection of grasses, succulents, and native perennials were thoughtfully chosen to incorporate color, texture, form, and wildlife habitat into the garden.

"We couldn't have done it without you," the homeowner said. "I would have never have picked these plants--I wouldn't even have known what they were. But these are just wonderful!"
