Crow's Nest

Ahh… the classic Royal Oak bungalow. One full bath to service the entire family upstairs and a small powder room off the foyer downstairs. Luckily this couple are empty nesters whose family bath has now become a master bath to serve the needs of only two.

With aging in place in mind, we replaced the original freestanding cast iron tub and wrap around shower curtain with a modern soaking tub. Turning the tub 90 degrees and centering it on the back wall allowed us to utilize every bit of 53 square foot.

In keeping with the architecture of this Craftsman style home, we used natural, warm tones: Blues, Greens and Khaki’s in 3x6 honed slate; Warm Khaki in 6x6 porcelain; Natural Cherry laminate in the custom vanity and medicine cabinet. The toilet, sink and tub were biscuit to prevent any glaring contrast. A complementary slate mosaic was used to top off the wainscot and create a decorative panel for the tub and shower plumbing.

The 42” vanity has a convenient “Hair Care Solutions” pull out and three drawers. The double wide medicine cabinet is what makes this room work for two. Not only does it fill the wall space nicely between the shower and opposing wall but allows the second person to have their own storage and mirror. The modern lines of the cabinetry are offset by the more traditional Delta Cassidy faucet. The Compazo engineered concrete countertop adds to the naturalistic feel of the space.

Aesthetics and function combined to create an inviting, safe small bath retreat for two.
