Downriver Dandy

This couple loved their frequently used 15 year old Jacuzzi tub but were tired of everything else around it. The speckled teal Corian countertops and the faux marble print ceramic tile revealed when this master bath was last remodeled. Also, the toilet was placed vulnerably in the center of the room

Our first two goals were to remove the step in front of the tub deck and privatize the toilet. We turned their existing Jacuzzi tub 90 degrees to take full advantage of the existing fireplace and placed the plumbing fixtures to the side, making the tub easily accessible without the step. The toilet was moved directly across the room and was replaced with an Aquadis dual flush water saving toilet. The privatizing half wall is topped by a Lumicor Paper Leaf Panel.

Without any linen storage in the hallway, it was important to have additional storage right inside the bathroom. The existing sink vanity was recycled. To it was added a new drawer base, seated vanity, uppers and three towers. All cabinetry was veneered with Tree Frog Walnut Crown. Lumicor panels in the uppers and towers continue the theme.

The tile in the room is more subdued to give the wood tones more emphasis. Tropical Grass porcelain tile with its fine vertical pin-striping, goes from floor to ceiling creating a wall paper effect. The large format Regal Taupe tile on the floor balances the biscuit colored Jacuzzi extending the visual floor space. The glossy Walker Zanger Roku Cashmere adds sparkle to the otherwise soft textural palette.

Dramatic, dimmable lighting allow them to set the mood. Large incandescent sconces frame the face at her seated vanity, halogen pucks show off the Lumicor panels, and 4” cans illuminate the tub deck. Curves in the sconces, sink, and bench seat soften the strong geometry of the tile and flat paneled cabinets.
